Here are a few nervous system soothers to help in the moment and can bring a sense of safety:
• Gently rock side to side, crossing your arms in front of your chest – tap bilaterally
• Sing or hum, if you have a favorite tune – great!
• Slowly scan your surroundings – notice colors, textures, shapes
Your body needs and wants:
• Movement, laughter and connecting with others
• Time outside in natural light – even if it’s just a quick loop around the block
• Deep rest and quality sleep if that is available to you
Bonus comfort: Wrap yourself in a heavy blanket, hold something weighted, or snuggle your pet for instant nervous system regulation.
